Patrick Wilson is an American actor and singer. He started his acting career with Broadway musicals in 1995, and few of his notable works include The Full Monty and Oklahoma. He then appeared in Angels in America, an HBO miniseries for which he received nomination for the Golden Globe Award and Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie. He has also starred in the television drama series A Gifted Man, and FX's anthology series Fargo.
His movie debut would have been My Sister's Wedding in 2001, however, the movie remained unreleased. Hence, he made his debut with The Alamo in 2004. He is mostly seen in horror movies and is best remembered for his roles in Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2, The Conjuring, and The Conjuring 2.
Early Life
Born on 3rd of July, 1973 in Norfolk, Virginia, the actor is born to voice teacher and professional singer Mary Kay Wilson, and former news anchor John Franklin Wilson. He has an elder brother, Mark Wilson, who is a news anchor and reporter. Wilson spent most of his childhood in St. Petersburg, Florida where he attended Shorecrest Preparatory School. He graduated with a BFA degree from the Carnegie Mellon University. While in college, he was awarded the Charles Willard Memorial Award for Undergraduate Experience in Music Theatre.
Personal Life
Wilson married Polish-American actress Dagmara Dominczyk on 18th June, 2005. Dominczyk, also like Wilson, graduated from the Carnegie Mellon University. The couple welcomed their first child on the 23rd June, 2006 and named him Kalin Patrick Wilson. On 9th August, 2009 Dominczyk gave birth to the couple's second son Kassian McCarrell Wilson. The actor lives in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife and children.
Acting Career
Before making his movie debut, Wilson was actively a part of theater and Broadway musicals and plays. He made his acting debut in 1995 soon after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University as an understudy in the U.S. touring production in Miss Saigon. He then appeared in other plays like Carousel, and Bright Lights, Big City. He then made his Broadway theater debut with The Full Monty in 2000, and for this role he received the nomination for the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical.
The actor then made his movie debut in 2000 with My Sister's Wedding, however, the movie did not release. In 2002, Wilson was a part of Oklahoma!, a Broadway production, and his performance as Curly earned him the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for the second time each. Following this success, Wilson won critical acclaim for his portrayal of Joe Pitt in the HBO drama miniseries Angels in America for which he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor -- Series, Miniseries or Television Film, and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie nominations.
After an unreleased movie, Wilson made his movie debut with The Alamo in 2004 but the movie bombed at the box office. He then appeared in the musical The Phantom of the Opera, which opened to mixed reviews. He then essayed the role of pedophile Jeff Kohlver in psychological thriller Hard Candy, co-starring Ellen Page. In 2006, the actor appeared in Todd Field's Little Children, and Ryan Murphy's Running With Scissors. He then appeared in Purple Violets in 2007, and Lakeview Terrace in 2008.
He then appeared in Zack Snyder's adaptation of the graphic novel Watchmen in 2009. Wilson played the roles of Dan Dreiberg and Nite Owl II, and gained 25 pounds for the movie. Wilson starred alongside Rose Byrne in James Wan's 2011 horror Insidious, and also reappeared in its 2013 sequel Insidious: Chapter 2. The actor was also seen in action-comedy The A-Team in 2010 and played the role of a CIA Special Activities Division operative Lynch.
Wilson appeared in one of the highest grossing horror films of all time, The Conjuring cast opposite Vera Farmiga in 2013. The following year, Wilson was cast in FX's successful anthology series Fargo. He was then cast in independent film Bone Tomahawk, co-starring Kurt Russell and Matthew Fox. In 2015, the actor was seen in The Founder, a biopic based on the life of Ray Kroc, the founder of fast food chain McDonald's. Wilson then reprised his role of Ed Warren from The Conjuring in its sequel The Conjuring 2, which released in 2016.
